The Ocean is so large and unexperienced in daily lives that many of it's inhabitants, especially in deep levels remain undiscovered and many of the effects of pollution go unnoticed. As written in this article, Project Kaisei Aims to clean the Pacific Ocean with a goal of removing up to 40 tons of plastic products in the Pacific Ocean between Japan and the U.S. in an area larger than the U.S.
As environmental awareness is increasing so or the studies of pollution in the ocean which don't stop at plastic in the Pacific. Studies are showing that Mecury pollution levels of methlmercury are increasing in the Pacific which is making it's way into fish that humans eat.
