Pasefika has uploaded a new video to our YouTube channel. The video is titled: How to draw a sprouted coconut plant (oʻo) with color pencil. The video is meant to demonstrate how to draw with color pencil, accompany existing videos posted on our YouTube channel and artwork posted on our website.
In Sāmoa the sprouted coconut plant is known as the “oʻo”.
The mature coconut plant (cocos nucifera) is known as the “niu” Sāmoa and Hawaiʻi.

If you haven't seen it, check out the Matou Gagana YouTube Channel. It's a YouTube Channel with videos about Gagana Sāmoa (Sāmoan language). They also have an app called “Matou Samoan Language”.

A great photo and article about the ʻAlia from The Museum of Sāmoa Facebook page. The photo includes a rare look inside the cabin between the double hull. This would be the primary shelter for the Sāmoans during their voyages and migrations throughout the Pacific Ocean. The article also lists the names Kalia (Tonga) and Ndrua (Fiji) as their cultures had similar watercraft including this ship size/class (large double hull).
