Fue by Jon Apisa

Fue

Jon Apisa. Fue. 2002. ink on paper, 8" x 11" (21.6cm x 27.94cm).

“Fue” sketchbook drawing by Jon Apisa.

This was inspired by the “fue” which is a whisk used in cultural protocol by the Matai (titleholder/chief) of Sāmoa.

Among the Matai are the Tulafale (Orator) who use the fue (made with sennit and wooden handle) and the toʻotoʻo (wood staff) as cultureal symbols during the lāuga (ceremonial speech).
