This oil painting was based on a “Lau Magamaga | Lauaʻe” (Microsorum scolopendria, Phymatosorus scolopendria) is painted from a view of the plant growing in the yard.
I choose the Lau Magamaga | Lauaʻe a a subject for a lot of my artwork because it is common and I like the aesthetic appearance.
The fern we know as Lau Magamaga | Lauaʻe (Microsorum scolopendria, Phymatosorus scolopendria) is native to many Polynesian islands and it was introduced to Hawaiʻi. In Hawaiʻi, the fern now is quite common including areas with maintained landscaping.
In my opinion the fern has an aesthetically pleasing frond shape with its sori throughout its lifecycle like features.
