Talie i le oneone | Talie in the sand

Artist Notes: Talie i le oneone | Talie in the sand

Kauaʻi, Hawaiʻi October 20, 2024

“Talie i le oneone | Talie in the sand” oil watercolor painting was based on a “Talie” (Terminalia catappa) is painted from a view of the plant growing in the sand on the beach..

The Terminalia catappa trees can be seen at various beaches on the island as well as through the pacific.

Like other plants at the beach it was growing with the salt air constantly blowing on it.

What made this unique to me was that it was growing out of the sand on the beach itself rather than teh edge where sand meets soil.

This also intriged me knowing that this I have seen these full sized tree grow to almost 33 feet or 10 meters in height.

As a side note, it has been told to me by multiple people who grew up in Sāmoa that the fruit is edible when the shell is cracked.
